Should You Sing Your Credit Card?

Today many credit card users are extremely afraid of credit card fraud. They do their best to find secure credit card offers and do what they can in order to protect their cards from fraud and identity theft. Today many credit card users prefer not to sign the back of their plastics. Some of them leave the signature line blank, other prefer to write "see ID". Most cardholders think that it will be more difficult for criminals to use your card and falsify your signature if the thefts don't have an example of it on the back of your plastic. It can be a tough decision for many of us whether to sign a new card or not.

Let's think about it. In case you sign the back of your credit card, it will be easy for the criminals to purchase goods with it. They can simply go to the store, pay with your credit card and easily falsify your signature on the charge receipt.

In addition, there is a possibility that the criminals can use your signature and other info they can find out about you to fill in new credit card applications and acquire more credit.

In case you decide not to sign your credit card, you can write "see ID". This option has become very popular among many credit card users. In this situation clerk has to ask you for your ID (probably your driver's license) and compare the signature on your ID and on the charge receipt. Even if you decide not to sign the back of your credit card at all, clerk still has to ask for your ID!

But what is the best option? Many cardholders prefer not to sign their cards and count on storeowners to ask them for their IDs. But do the clerks always ask you for an ID? Many of them don't even turn the plastic over! Of course they are supposed to do it, but many of them don't. So are you protected then?

Major credit card companies like Visa, Discover, MasterCard or American Express advise their customers to sign their cards. In fact, the clerks are not supposed to accepted credit cards without signatures and have the right to deny the purchase if your card is not signed.

Perhaps the best rule is simply to be careful and do what your credit card company advises you to do. If you lose your wallet, whether you signed your card or not will not be the major issue. Theft can always make purchases online or by phone, in this case your signature will not be necessary at all!

Today many credit card companies offer you the best credit cards with your picture. These plastics will give you extra protection as there is a small possibility that you and the criminal will look alike. Remember that attention can really help you to protect your good credit and to avoid all kinds of identity theft!

I think there is no way to protect yourself from fraud and identity theft! Everything depends on you. You have to be attentive. As for me I sign all my credit cards, but some of my friends don't...

I never sign my credit card, because I don't want someone else to use my credit card!

ID and Credit Protection

We are in need of ingenious solutions to the problem of a relatively new and utterly destructive type of identity fraud - new account fraud. New account fraud occurs when a criminal uses your identity information, such as your Social Security Number, driver's license number or credit card number to open a new account with the purpose of obtaining a new credit card or loan.

The cases of new account fraud are becoming more and more frequent, which is largely due to the currently prevailing systems of ID theft prevention and protection. Most of present-day security systems are focused on the authentication of existing account owners, not new ones, which provides criminals with a loophole.
