Credit Card Offers – Make a Wise Use of Them
12:00:00 AM Thursday, August 30, 2007
Nowadays it is hard to find someone who doesn't have a credit card. There are so many credit card offers: secured and unsecured cards, cards for good and bad credit history, business and students credit cards. Some offer 0 % APR and no annual fees, others cash back and bonus points.
Of course credit cards make daily expenses easier as you can make purchases that you can't afford. But credit cards can be tempting. You want to buy everything you see, even if you don't need it.
Remember to use your credit cards wisely and I will try to help you with it. Here are some pieces of advice about smart usage of credit cards:
- First of all look for the credit card offers that fit you according to your financial status and the type of purchases that you make.
That's how it was done my friend Nick's my family. Every family member had his or her own credit card according to the type of their spendings. His mom-Mrs. Brown, probably as everyone else's, often went shopping for groceries and households. So she had a credit card with high percentage cash back for groceries and gasoline. His father-Mr. Brown, often went on business trips, so he had a card that offered airline and hotel benefits. And his sister Mary and Nick himself had student credit cards.
Nick said that having separate credit cards made it easier for them us to keep track on credit history and taught him the responsibility for the money he was spending.
- Use credit card benefits like cash back, Internet access and airline miles. When choosing a card, make sure the card really offers benefits for each purchase or mile!
- Choose 0% APR store credit cards. Some stores offer 0% APR for more than a year if you purchase an expensive item from them.
- Watch where you shop! Try to escape credit card frauds. Never give your personal information to the sites that are not secured!
Once my friend Billy got an e-mail where he was offered to get a free trip to Hawaii. To get this free trip he was offered to join the travel club. It was not hard to do at all. He just had to fill out a form where he had to write his bank and credit card account number to have a membership billed.
Two weeks later poor Bill noticed that 1500$ ‘escaped' from his account. And his dream- a free trip to Hawaii has never came true.
- In case you had a misfortune and your credit card was stolen, you have to report immediately! At least within 24 hours. It will cost you 50$, but will save you a lot of nerves!
And the last and the most important tip on wise usage of credit cards:
- When you are using a credit card you have to realize that you are borrowing money. Remember to pay back. Always pay your bills on time! Credit card companies have a legal right to raise your interest rate if you pay late. In addition, you will establish an excellent credit record and rise your credit score. It's a great advantage, don't you think so?
Hopefully this article will be helpful you! Good luck credit card users, remember to use your cards wisely!

The proposed in 2007 better disclosure laws for credit card terms were not enough, as was indicated by consumers' comments. This has led to the new and broader regulations proposed by the Federal Reserve in May 2008 which are coming into force, cracking down on the lenders predatory policies of arbitrary interest rates and excessive fees. The American Bankers Association representatives, as well as all major US banks, are growing uneasy about the inevitable revenue drop they'll incur as a result of the stricter legislation. They warn the Fed and scary customers with unintended impact on lending prices, meaning that once they cannot overcharge high-risk customers, they will shift all the costs on customers who can and will pay. They say to apply for credit will become much more expensive and less available.

Owners of frequent flyer credit cards are developing the habit of playing the ever changing game of the airlines. US major airlines, such as US Airways, Delta and Continental are altering their miles programs and the result may be frustrating for most travelers. Among the recently made changes are a greater number of redeemable miles required, fewer bonuses and new fees.
Whether suchlike alterations hurt consumers has not been revealed yet as the number of mileage cards currently in use holds steady. For over three years that number has been around 45 million, according to The Nilson Report. Some US credit consumers have recently found themselves confused after purchasing their credit scores at one or all the major credit bureaus - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Their confusion gets a vivid expression through the following question sent to us by one of our readers: "Your website puts the credit score range as 350-850; however when I requested my credit scores through TransUnion and Experian, the range was 501-990, which makes someone with a 650 credit score a poor credit customer. Is the info on your website outdated and how often do you update?"
In this article, we'll try to give a comprehensive explanation to this issue so that credit card applicants get a clear picture of their chances when trying to get a new credit card or another loan.
