Attention taxpayers! If you owe some money to U.S. government there is good news for you! Now you can pay your taxes using your credit card offers. More and more Americans take into consideration the rewards they can possibly get and pay their taxes with credit cards.

It is not surprising that in 2006 two million of U.S. citizens paid their taxes with their credit card offers. Comparing with 2005 this figure went up by 35%.

Paying taxes with your card is a nice option, but is it really so great?

There is absolutely no doubt that paying taxes with a credit card you have the following options:

  • Fast- payments can be made by phone or by Internet. That means you can pay from anywhere these services are available

  • Secured-IRS never receives or stores credit card numbers.

If you are an owner of a reward credit card you can use its advantage and get something back! You can choose to pay by frequent flyer credit card or gasoline credit card. You get the rewards for the purchases and tax payment is not the exception!

Businessmen are even luckier! According to IRS they can assign taxes paid with business credit cards as business expenses.

All major credit card companies like American Express, Visa, Discover and MasterCard provide their customers with this service.

But there are several disadvantages of paying taxes with a credit card. The biggest one is a convenience fee which is from 2.49% to 3.93% of the payment. Fees can vary depending on the provider.

Of course if your tax payment is several hundreds-it's not a big deal. But if you are paying thousands of dollars 3% can really make a difference.

You also have to remember that if you don't pay your credit card balance in full, credit card companies will charge you the every month interest. If you don't pay each month you will get higher interest rate.

See if the reward you are getting is really worth paying taxes with your credit card. You really don't have to be so good in Math to find out! But it is a very important to count the expenses and the benefits before making the right decision.

Some people think that using credit cards to pay taxes is a paradox. They say that tax refund is made to pay off the credit card debt and that's why it is silly to pay taxes with a card! To their mind, bills and credit cards should not be mixed.

Others say that credit card deals for paying taxes are the greatest thing, because this way they can get unbelievable rewards like miles or money back. They can also get the best benefits!
