In case 2007 was not the best financial year for you, you can make 2008 a better one! This New Year your financial future is in your own hands: read the fine print of your card, compare the rates and protect your personal information! Here are some useful tips to make 2008 financially stable:
- Learn to manage your money. If you have credit card debt, try to pay it off as soon as possible. Start with a card that has the highest interest rate, try to put all extra money to pay off the debt with the highest interest rate! If you can't deal with your debt on your own, turn to non-profit organization. There you will get the help you really need!
- Use your credit card only for purchases that you really need! Even if you have point rewards credit card, remember that you will have to pay back and some gifts are simply not worth it!
- Take your time and read the fine print on your credit card agreement and monthly statement. It is always good to have such knowledge as it can save you some money!
- Always pay your bills on time! Only if you make payments on time, you will be able to avoid paying huge late fees! The best thing is to pay bills right after you get them in mail.
- Protect you identity. Burn all the papers you are planning to throw away that contain your personal information, such as social security number, bank account, etc. Place a credit freeze on your account. If you do so, it will be more difficult for scammers to open a new line of credit in your name. In case you have noticed some goods you have not purchased on your monthly credit card statement, immediately take action! Contact your credit card company and ask for an investigation. All major credit card companies like Visa credit card company or Discover will provide their customers with such service.
My friend Billy was a victim of identity theft. He noticed an unusual purchase that he didn't make. It was only worth $30, but he immediately contacted his credit card issuer. Fortunately, it happened just once, but now Billy always checks his credit card statement looking for unusual purchases!
- Pay attention on APR of your card. If you are offered 0% APR, find out how much it will be after the introductory period. Sometimes APR can go up as much as 39%! So it is definitely very important to know this information as it can influence your future financial condition!
If you follow these simply tips, there is no doubt that 2008 will not bring you any financial problems with your credit cards. Choose the best credit cards and enjoy your shopping in new 2008!

The slumping economy and credit crisis force lenders to curtail 0% APR offers, benefits and even rewards programs. Some card offers have already imposed restrictions on when and how rewards can be redeemed.
The good news is that there are still plenty of deals offering lucrative cash back, gas and miles rewards and you only need to apply for the right card now. The difficulty here is the rewards vary from card to card and to make the best deal, you need to compare offers and choose one based on your spending priorities and financial standing.
