Common Mistakes in Usage of Balance Transfer Credit Cards

Balance transfer credit card offers may seem to be the best on the credit card market. But as we know, credit card companies always issue plastics that bring them a lot of profit! Balance transfer cards are not the exception. The issuers of these plastics count on the fact that most potential credit card users will not pay attention to the costly details of an offer. So before applying for the balance transfer card, you really have to make sure that you are well informed about all the terms and conditions of this plastic! Transferring balances from a card with high interest rate to the plastic with lower rate can really save you a lot if you don't become a victim of these common mistakes:

  • Balance transfer credit cards rarely come up without some type of balance transfer fee. Usually credit card companies set the flat rate, which is about $60 or charge you some percentage of the total amount that was transferred. From the first sight, 3% don't seem to be too much, but if you are transferring thousands of dollars, paying 3% can be really costly!
  • Look for the credit card deals with a cap on how high the fee for balance transfer can go. Before you decide to benefit from a balance transfer credit card offer, do the simple math! If your fee is more expensive than you would have paid in interest, simply don't transfer, it is not worth it!
  • There are many low rate credit cards that offer balance transfers, but you have to remember that usually purchases are not the part of this deal! You should expect high interest rates on purchases and cash advances!
  • Many balance transfer credit cards offer sweet conditions during the introductory period. They include low or even zero interest rates, but you have to remember that these conditions will not last forever. After the introductory period is over, your interest rate will be significantly higher! That's why it is really important to plan for paying off your balance before the introductory period is over and the interest rate increases.
  • Don't miss the payments! If you miss your payment during the introductory period, you may find out that the conditions of the introductory period no longer apply and you are paying much more interest than you were!

Balance transfer plastics, like all other credit cards can be really helpful, they can even help you to avoid bad credit and huge debt! If you want your balance transfer credit cards to be beneficial for you, avoid these common mistakes. Only if you use your cards wisely, balance transfer plastics will be the best credit cards in your wallet!

Pre Approved Credit October 07, 2008

Pre Approved Card Offers

If you hold a valid FICO score with at least one national credit reporting agency, you are very likely to receive a pre approved bank card offer in the mail. But among the 3% of recipients completing and returning the application, only some 1.5% if not less actually get approved. Why is that and what are you required of to qualify for that enticing card offer sent by a major bank?

Most people think if they've been pre approved, there will be no hassle going through the formality of the application process. Now they don't have to spend hours searching and comparing products online to find the only right variant. Hardly anyone knows how the bank chooses a potential customer and what eligibility requirements it will use to finally approve or reject your application.

Credit Cards at College September 26, 2008

Best Student Credit Card

Though a standard unsecured student credit card is available to high schoolers nowadays, it is at college that young people make their first financial decision independently from parents. The first responsibility comes with the need to choose the right plastic from a great spectrum of equally attractive offers.

Student offers are normally spiced with various bonuses, advantageous features and striking rewards which often drive the youngster into impulsive application decisions. The hassle or negative consequences of choosing a card would be avoided if a student knew the basic points to look at when doing a search.

Top Credit Card Companies September 12, 2008

AmEx Company

Not as universally accepted as Visa and MasterCard, American Express was recognized the leader by the 2008 credit consumers' satisfaction study. The company tops the list of providers which services, fees and rewards are found especially attractive and so bring the greatest satisfaction to most cardholders.

American Express though has never offered cheap and easily affordable services. Traditionally, its major business and best products have been targeted at customers with firm financial standing, long and faultless payment history and high job income. In this way AmEx differs from the other companies involved in the study but its first place is still well-earned. Why? Because any person able to pay will fork out for the first-class services traded by the company.
